Weeks 1–2 · The kit and the house
Tools worth owning, and finding your shut-offs and panel.
Four programs of 6 to 10 weeks, built on real jobs in your own home.
We start with a tool kit that costs less than one service call, then work through the repairs that come up constantly: doors that stick, drawers that sag, holes in walls, running toilets, dead outlets that turn out to be a tripped GFCI. Real jobs in your home, photographed and diagnosed.
Tools worth owning, and finding your shut-offs and panel.
Screws, anchors and hanging things that stay up.
Sticking doors, loose handles, cabinet hinges.
Working through the jobs on your own list.
Every shut-off in your home, labeled and tested.
Washers, cartridges and stopping a drip for a few dollars.
Fill valves, flappers, traps and clearing a slow drain.
Simple plumbing is very learnable and saves real money. We stick to the safe end: washers and cartridges, toilet fill and flush valves, traps and drains. Anything involving gas water heaters, main lines or soldering in a wall goes to a licensed plumber, and we'll say so plainly.
Paint jobs fail at the preparation stage. We cover patching that disappears after painting, caulking lines that look sharp, taping and cutting in, and the order of operations that stops you painting yourself into a corner — literally.
Nail holes, doorknob holes and larger repairs.
Cleaning, sanding, caulking and masking.
Cutting in, rolling and avoiding lap marks.
Order of work, and finishing properly.
Gutters, grading, and the places leaks start.
Filters, water heater checks and what the noises mean.
A seasonal checklist for your house, with reminders.
Most expensive home disasters announce themselves months in advance. We build a seasonal checklist for your climate and house type — gutters, filters, water heater, caulking, winterizing — and go through what each check is actually looking for.
Twenty minutes on the jobs you keep postponing, and which are genuinely yours to do. Free.
